Belgrano Day School celebrated Flag Day 2025 with three moving ceremonies that brought together the entire school community in the school’s Auditorium. Each section — Kinder, Primary, and Middle & Senior — held its own ceremony, honoring national values, the memory of Manuel Belgrano, and the importance of the flag as a symbol of national unity.
Pledge of allegiance to the flag in Primary
The central ceremony was led by Primary’s 4th grade students, who took part in the traditional Pledge of Allegiance to the national flag. With great enthusiasm and emotion, the students publicly committed to respecting and upholding the values the national emblem represents.
During the ceremony, Andrea Pelliccia, Head of Primary, invited the students to reflect:
“The Flag represents our shared history and identity as a people, connecting us to our roots and cultural values as we go out to meet the world. Its pledge motivates us to act with respect, and to seek knowledge and personal effort as a path toward freedom.”
The event also included the audiovisual piece “Entre archivos patrios” (“Among National Archives”), which told the story of the birth of our flag from a present-day perspective. As a closing moment, the 4th grade students sang the “Saludo a la bandera” (“Salute to the Flag”) and walked down the Auditorium aisle waving our light blue and white emblem. Afterward, they shared hot chocolate and churros with their families in the school courtyard.
The youngest students also honored the flag
In Kinder, students from K3, K4, and K5 took part in a moving ceremony, led by the K5 Dinosaurs classroom. Through songs and activities specially designed for their age, the youngest members of BDS paid tribute to the national flag and remembered the figure of Manuel Belgrano.
After receiving the ceremony flags to our School Song, the Dinosaurs performed the Argentine National Anthem in sign language, approved by the Confederación Argentina de Sordos, as a display of empathy and respect for diversity.
They then took part in a question-and-answer game related to the date. Each correctly answered question earned a piece of a giant puzzle, which came together to reveal an image of the National Flag Memorial.
Afterward, some of the Dinosaurs held a parade of flags representing their own origins or those of family members living in other countries. Each child shared a heartfelt story connected to their flag, as a way of honoring cultural diversity.
Finally, the K5 students creatively reenacted the first raising of our national flag and closed the ceremony by singing “Bandera de mi país,” by Magdalena Fleitas.
This event allowed families and the school community to share a moment of celebration, in which national values were experienced from early childhood with enthusiasm and joy.
Middle & Senior: building community through memory
In Middle & Senior, the ceremony focused on reflecting on the lasting legacy of Manuel Belgrano and on building national identity. As part of this reflection, Middle 2 students presented a community flag they built together, not with fabric or colors, but with phrases representing the Argentine character — in other words, what makes us unique as a society.
Through classroom dialogue and reflection, each student thought about what identifies them most as Argentine, and which customs, values, or expressions make them feel part of this shared identity. This led to phrases about friendship, camaraderie, humor, solidarity, our typical foods, our family traditions, and even our way of speaking.
The event also included the participation of Senior 4 students, who shared their own reflections on the meaning of the flag and the importance of leaving a legacy through small everyday acts of solidarity and commitment.
