Physical education
A character-building tradition
From the first games played in Kinder, to the international experiences in Senior, BDS carries a strong sports tradition based on effort, commitment, perseverance, healthy competition, FairPlay, and teamwork, values taught from a very small age.
Because in every training session, match and shared challenge our students learn something that goes beyond the results: they learn to grow together.
Kinder
Discovering movement
During the first years of school, basic physical education is developed through games, and the exploration and discovery of their own bodies.
In this stage students: Develop fundamental motor skills. / Learn to respect rules and group dynamics. / Strengthen cooperation with their peers. / Incorporate active and healthy life habits
At BDS, movement is thought of as a way to explore the world, gain trust and build bonds with others.
Primary
First sport challenges
From P3 onwards, students start getting involved in team sports: Hockey and Rugby.
From P6 onwards, they incorporate Volley, broadening the sports experiences available.
Students participate in sports encounters with other schools organised by ADE (Student Sports Association), a network of bilingual schools that share the same view: Sports as a tool in value development. These experiences allow them to develop team spirit, respect for others, and healthy competition.
Track and field events and the sports spirit
In Primary school, students explore different disciplines inside track and field, among them: Long jump / Speed races / Hockey ball throw / Relay races
The practice of these disciplines culminates in the Athletics Sports Day, a traditional interhouse day, held annually in our sports field in El Talar.
Students represent their houses or teams in a competition that celebrates effort, personal improvement, and sportsmanship.
-
North is blue, like the sky above.
-
South is green, like the land we walk on.
-
East is yellow, like the sun that peeks out over there.
-
West is red, the one of the sunset.
Camping trips: learning outside the classroom
Between P4 and P6, students participate in educational camping trips that combine sports, nature and coexistence.
During these experiences, students:
- Develop progressive autonomy.
- Strengthen their teamwork abilities.
- Connect with the natural environment.
- Face new challenges outside their comfort zones.
Middle & Senior
Sports offering
In Middle & Senior School, the sports offer is broadened both in competencies and in track and field disciplines.
Students continue developing their skills in: Hockey / Rugby / Volley
And deepen their athletic education in disciplines such as: Shot put / Javelin throw / Discus throw / High jump / Hurdle races.
Throughout this stage, students participate in intercollegial tournaments, representing the school in different disciplines, just like in the Athletic Sports Day, an Interhouse track and field event that takes place annually in our sports field El Talar.
These experiences consolidate, not only sports performance, but also a sense of leadership, resilience and belonging to a team.
International experiences
In Senior School students participate in the Culture and Sports Tour in the United Kingdom.
During this experience, they have the opportunity to:
- Compete in international sport contexts.
- Strengthen their bilingual communication.
- Meet sport institutions with longstanding traditions.
- Practice their autonomy and leadership skills.
The Tour becomes an unforgettable experience that combines sports, culture, and personal growth.
