At Belgrano Day School, Music is more than just a subject: it is a language to express oneself, listen, create and build our community.
From the very first years, students explore different instruments, develop musical sensitivity and discover the role music plays in their own paths.
Our proposal combines exploration, choice and collective practice, allowing each student to find their musical path and develop it throughout their whole school journey.
A key first step: discovering different instruments
Since Primary 4, students begin a process of exploration, trying different instruments, and getting to know different sounds, styles and ways of performing.
In this stage, students:
- Try out eight different instruments.
- Experiment with each one to discover their interests and aptitudes.
- Develop basic skills of listening and performance.
The instruments explored in this experience are:
- Violin
- Flute
- Saxophone and clarinet
- Creole and electric guitar
- Trumpet
- Trombone
- Piano
- Percussion
- Choir
This allows students to approach music from direct experience.
From discovery to the choice of a personal instrument
After the exploration period, students choose four instruments they want to explore further.
Out of these four, they finally select one which they will practice throughout the remaining school years.
This process favours:
- The commitment to music and its practices.
- The progressive development of skills.
- The construction of a personal relationship with music.
Playing together: the experience of musical ensembles
The final objective of this practice is to take music into a collective space.
Students participate in musical ensembles where they learn to:
- Listen to other musicians.
- Integrate different instruments.
- Construct a shared piece.
- Develop artistic sensitivity and teamwork skills.
Inside these spaces, music is transformed into a shared experience.
For those wishing to go further: the Music Academy
Besides training inside school hours, the school has a Music Academy, an extracurricular space developed for those who wish to deepen their learning of their chosen instrument.
The Academy offers:
- Individual lessons or in small groups.
- Personalised learning according to each student´s level and interests.
- Specific focus on technique and interpretation methods.
Each student can develop their instrument at their own pace, with a tailored approach.
