As every year, the Belgrano Day School community marked another anniversary of the May Revolution of 1810 with special ceremonies across all Sections. It was a day to celebrate our roots, reaffirm the values that unite us, and strengthen our sense of belonging to our nation.
Kinder: national identity from the earliest years
On Thursday the 23rd, the youngest students at Belgrano Day opened the celebrations with an artistic and participatory event. After receiving the ceremony flags, Estela Fothy, Head of Kinder, addressed those present, highlighting the pride of belonging to a community.
This year, Kinder‘s activity was led especially by the Leopards, who acted out typical scenes from the colonial era: street vendors’ cries, washerwomen, town council members, peddlers, and dances.
In period costumes and full of emotion, the activity closed with a performance of the song “Pero qué pasa, qué pasará,” led by teacher Yael Kohan. In this way, through music and physical expression, the children began taking their first steps in building their national identity.
Primary: a morning of reflection and music
In the Auditorium, BDS Primary‘s 2nd grade students led an original ceremony that imagined what May 25th, 1810, would look like if it happened today, amid the rise of social media and technology.
Through this performance, they not only recalled the revolutionary events, but also reflected on the importance of communication, critical thinking, and the responsible use of digital platforms.
Afterward, Andrea Pelliccia, Head of Primary, spoke about the importance of nurturing a sense of nationhood from an early age, so that students can go out into the world while knowing where they come from. She also emphasized the importance of schools as spaces for passing on values, memory, and collective identity.
The children then sang “Una mañana de mayo,” accompanied on piano by teacher Magdalena Roiter.
Middle & Senior: sovereignty and identity
The final commemorative ceremony was led by Middle & Senior. After the entrance of the ceremony flags and the singing of the National Anthem, a speech marking the date was shared, reflecting on sovereignty and identity as fundamental pillars of our history and our present.
Afterward, two students read the poem “Oda a la Patria” by Jorge Luis Borges. The activity closed with a participatory activity: creating a word cloud together to express what national identity means to each of them.

From Kinder to Middle & Senior, the ceremonies — held in the school’s Auditorium — combined artistic expression, historical reflection, and connections to the present, all around a single theme: remembering the spirit of freedom and civic participation that gave rise to our nation.
