On June 27 and 28 and July 4 and 5, the Belgrano Day School auditorium was filled with music, color, and excitement as audiences enjoyed All Shook Up – School Edition, a school adaptation inspired by the songs of Elvis Presley®, written by Joe DiPietro.
The production captivated a packed auditorium of families, staff, students, and alumni, who enthusiastically applauded every scene and sang along to the King of Rock & Roll’s most iconic hits. Performed by students from Middle & Senior, All Shook Up – School Edition was much more than a stage production: it marked the culmination of months of work during which students showcased their creativity, commitment, and talent in a comprehensive project that goes beyond the performing arts to become a truly meaningful learning experience.
A Place to Learn by Doing
The production, a school adaptation of the Broadway musical written by Joe DiPietro, was directed by Sergio Lombardo, with choreography by Verónica Pacenza and musical direction by Carina Cristina Enrico, supported by a dedicated team of professionals who oversaw every detail.
A total of 107 students performed on stage, acting and singing in English with outstanding skill, while 33 students joined the backstage team, contributing to the set-up, production, and behind-the-scenes organization.
The students also received a very special surprise: Cheyenne Jackson, the star of the original Broadway production, sent them a personal video message wishing them every success in their performances. The video was shown in the auditorium before each show.
The production also stood out for its impressive scenic design. A 7-meter-wide by 3-meter-high LED screen displayed visuals created especially for the show by Lorenzo Larrouque, a renowned theatre designer. These projections were complemented by a wide range of movable set pieces built by students’ families together with the Belgrano Day School maintenance team, continuing a cherished tradition that is renewed every year.
As Sergio Lombardo, the show’s director, expressed:
“Working with teenagers is not an easy task, but it is so rewarding that it is always worth it. Watching every direction and every movement become a new way for them to express themselves is truly moving, because that is what life is all about: a world where communicating and expressing yourself well is the foundation of success.” Enthusiasm, commitment, and collaboration were the hallmarks of this year’s Play, one of the most anticipated traditions on the BDS school calendar, bringing our entire community together each year to celebrate the magic of theatre and shared learning.
