Belgrano Day School has been selected as one of the 33 pioneering schools participating in the Secundaria Aprende programme, the pilot initiative that the Ministry of Education of the City of Buenos Aires will implement from 2025 in both public and private schools.
Secundaria Aprende 2025
This educational initiative builds on previous efforts to modernise secondary education, from the implementation of the New Secondary School (NES) in 2015 to the Secondary School of the Future project in 2017. Its aim is to strengthen academic learning through a more dynamic and personalised approach, prioritising core subjects (Mathematics, Language and English), interdisciplinary learning, educational practice, personalised learning pathways, and a socio-emotional approach.
These objectives are closely aligned with the BDS educational model, which encourages students to become active participants in their own learning. This shared vision was one of the reasons why the School was chosen as one of the pioneering institutions in the City of Buenos Aires to implement the programme.
“Our institution has always been at the forefront of innovative educational projects, and this proposal from the Ministry allows us to further strengthen that path. It provides us with a solid foundation to deepen student autonomy and foster more meaningful educational journeys,” said Francisco Lehmann, Head of Research & Communication at BDS.
While the Ministry of Education establishes the general framework, each institution will have the autonomy to define its own model within those guidelines.
Exchange Programme with São Paulo
As part of the implementation process for the Secundaria Aprende programme, representatives from the pioneering schools travelled to São Paulo, Brazil, to learn about the Full-Time Education model developed by the city’s Department of Education, as well as other outstanding educational experiences that could contribute to the transformation of secondary education in the City of Buenos Aires. Representing Belgrano Day School was Estefanía San Martin, Academic Coordinator of Middle & Senior.
The Full-Time Education model is based on three fundamental principles: Student Leadership, which encourages freedom, initiative, and commitment through active learning methodologies; Interdimensional Education, which seeks to balance rationality, emotional development, physical wellbeing, and transcendence; and Pedagogy of Presence, focused on active support throughout the teaching and learning process.
The purpose of the visit was to provide school leaders with a valuable professional development opportunity, strengthening their skills in educational leadership and school management to successfully implement the transformation within their institutions.

The Secundaria Aprende programme, which promotes flexibility, collaboration, and personalised learning, is fully aligned with the core pillars of the BDS educational model: Learner Centered; Cloud Learning; Global Learning; Media and ICT Literacy; and Assessment for Learning.
BDS will continue working on the implementation of this educational reform, reaffirming its commitment to an innovative, dynamic secondary education that meets the demands of the 21st century.
