From May 19th to 23rd, Primary students at Belgrano Day School took part in “AI Week,” a week of open classes in the IT, Design, and Robotics areas in which students from P1 to P6 explored the world of Artificial Intelligence through creative, playful, and reflective activities.
Projects by grade: playing, creating, and thinking with AI
Throughout the week, each grade explored different tools and activities that allowed them to discover the possibilities of AI and reflect on its uses:
- P1 worked with Quick Draw, where the AI guessed and improved their drawings, encouraging creative play with technology.
- P2 taught the AI through challenges like Tic Tac Toe, fostering computational thinking from an early age.
- P3 used Adobe Firefly to create images about healthy eating using prompts designed by the students themselves.
- P4 explored the Canva AI tool, generating fictional characters from text, combining design and storytelling.
- P5 and P6 worked with DALL·E and Firefly, reflecting on artistic styles such as Pop Art and 20th-century avant-garde movements, and compared their own designs with those generated by AI. In Robotics, they also compared responses from different models such as Gemini, Alexa, and Meta AI, discussing accuracy, bias, and reliability.
These activities promoted the development of key skills such as autonomy, creativity, collaborative work, and the ability to learn how to learn — all pillars of Belgrano Day School‘s pedagogical model.
A policy that guides the way
AI Week is part of the broader project BDS has been developing around the ethical and critical integration of AI. This year, the school launched its Safe and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence Policy, a pioneering initiative in the Argentine school setting that seeks to regulate, guide, and enhance the pedagogical use of this emerging technology.
In addition, during the first term the first session of the AI Sessions series was held, aimed at supporting teaching staff in reflecting on the impact of AI on education. These actions reflect BDS’s commitment to shaping students capable of incorporating AI into their learning in a critical and creative way.
