July 9th is the day we remember and honor the birth of our free and independent homeland. Over the past week, Belgrano Day School dressed in light blue and white to welcome families and students from all sections to a series of commemorative events. Under the premise that our homeland represents an ongoing commitment to becoming better, the BDS community came together to celebrate our history and reaffirm the values that guide our education.
Kinder’s first steps toward freedom
The youngest students opened the celebrations by connecting with our traditions in the most genuine way. Through dance and music, K4 students filled the stage with color, moving to the rhythm of the chacarera, the candombe, and the carnavalito, joined by their K5 peers. During the event, there was a reflection on how freedom is exercised through the simplest daily gestures: choosing what is good, sharing generously, and resolving conflicts with empathy. It was a day full of joy, where folklore reminded us of the fundamental value of our roots.
P6 and their Pledge to the National Constitution
For Primary, the national holiday carried an even deeper meaning thanks to the sixth-grade students, who took center stage in their Pledge to the National Constitution. Understanding that true freedom requires shared agreements, the children took on the enormous democratic responsibility of respecting the rights of others and building a fair coexistence. Accompanied by their teachers, they came to understand that this act goes beyond the walls of the school and calls on them to practice camaraderie and mutual respect every day.
The legacy of 1816 through the eyes of Middle & Senior
The closing of the celebrations was led by the older students, in an event that invited reflection. The central message emphasized that independence is not a chapter closed in the past, but a living flame that each generation must tend, nurture, and pass on through honest actions. This event was accompanied musically by the talent of the percussion ensemble and outstanding performances by the choir made up of Middle 1 and Middle 2 students.
Building our homeland is a daily task we carry forward together, in every classroom, every recess, and every home. We thank all the families who joined us and congratulate the students and teaching staff for their tremendous effort and dedication in honoring our history.
