Fostering global citizenship requires actively engaging with diverse realities and broadening one’s perspective beyond one’s own borders. With this goal in mind and in line with the ideals of Round Square, Belgrano Day School co-organized a two-day virtual international event in partnership with the Indian High School in Dubai.
Designed to foster cultural exchange, the event centered on reflection and debate regarding international migration and cosmopolitan populations. The event’s great value lay in the extraordinary diversity of perspectives: it featured the participation of students and guest schools from Armenia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, France, India, Oman, Peru, Qatar, and Switzerland.
For our students, hosting and participating in these types of activities is fundamental to our educational program. Organizing the event in collaboration with the school in Dubai provided an excellent opportunity to learn how to organize and self-manage teamwork. Furthermore, these experiences are key to strengthening our pillar of Global Culture and Bilingualism. Beyond improving their English proficiency and public speaking skills, the virtual dialogue fosters a true bilingual mindset in students: a cognitive, cultural, and relational disposition that transforms the way they think and engage with the world, enhancing their adaptability as well as their critical and creative thinking. It also nurtures their intercultural and ethical intelligence by exposing them to diversity and allowing them to analyze global issues from the perspective of young people from such varied backgrounds, which adds a profound and human dimension to their learning.
We extend special thanks to Indian High School in Dubai for the excellent collaboration in carrying out this initiative with us, and to all the delegations that contributed their voices to the debate. At BDS, we will continue to build these bridges of exchange and strengthen our international collaboration network to enrich the journey of our community.
