On Monday, May 12th, a new Institutional Improvement Meeting (EMI) took place at Belgrano Day School. As in every edition, this session brought together the teaching teams from Kinder, Primary, and Middle & Senior to reflect on their practices, review the year’s pedagogical focus areas, and continue building an innovative, student-centered education.
This session also launched the AI Sessions series, an institutional initiative to reflect on, learn about, and jointly build a critical and creative perspective on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. Our first AI Session featured Diego López Yse, professor at the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN) and an expert in Artificial Intelligence.
Work by level: collaborative planning
In Kinder, the teams focused on the language area. They also worked on the implementation of the new Cambridge Early Years programme, which brings together play, bilingualism, and meaningful learning. Teacher planning centered on the principles of the holistic approach put forward by this curriculum and on how to create experiences that build independence, curiosity, and the capacity for reflection from an early age.
In Primary, the focus was on rethinking how to design activities that invite students to become protagonists of their own learning, integrating technological tools with active teaching strategies. Work was also done on planning and assessing learning under the new curricular design for the City of Buenos Aires.
In Middle & Senior, the teaching team continued deepening the implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, with a focus on the learner community profile. In addition, as part of the Secundaria Aprende programme, they began training in Skills for Improving School Trajectories, aimed at tutors, homeroom teachers, and guidance teams, in coordination with the Buenos Aires City Ministry of Education.
Closing with an eye to the future
The day ended with our first AI Session. On this occasion, it featured Diego López Yse, who addressed the impact of AI on society in general and on education in particular, as well as the role of teachers in the face of this transformation.
“AI should not replace our fundamental cognitive skills, but rather enhance our ability to learn, create, and think autonomously,” he said during his talk, inviting reflection on the role of teachers in a context increasingly shaped by technology.
The integration of new tools such as generative AI raises enormous opportunities, but also challenges. That’s why BDS continues to promote institutional spaces for training and reflection, such as the EMI sessions, to support its teachers in building an innovative, humanistic education centered on the well-rounded development of each student.
