The BDS community proudly wore Argentina’s sky blue and white to commemorate the passing into immortality of General Manuel Belgrano. Through a series of meaningful ceremonies in Kindergarten, Primary, and Middle & Senior, we honored his legacy not only as the creator of our national flag, but also as a pioneer of education, a global citizen, and a man who dedicated his life to leaving a lasting mark on our nation’s history.
Kindergarten: The Curious Child Behind the National Hero
Our youngest students enjoyed a day full of learning and surprises. During the ceremony, their teachers shared a special secret: before becoming a national hero, Manuel Belgrano was an incredibly curious child who loved to learn. They discovered that he spoke several languages, founded schools, and cared deeply about protecting nature.
The event also provided a wonderful opportunity to highlight the family as the fundamental place where we learn values and find respect, support, and belonging. After welcoming the Ceremonial Flags, students performed the Argentine National Anthem in sign language and reflected on how our national symbols unite us as a country. They came to understand that wearing the school uniform is also a way of honoring Belgrano’s legacy and an opportunity to be curious, kind classmates, and lifelong lovers of learning every day.
Primary: The Traditional Pledge of Allegiance
The Primary ceremony centered around one of the most anticipated and emotional milestones in our students’ school journey: the P4 students’ Pledge of Allegiance to the National Flag.
In front of their families and teachers, the students pledged to honor, respect, and love our national flag. With a strong and unanimous “Yes, I do!”, they committed themselves to growing into free, fair, supportive, and tolerant citizens, embodying in their daily actions the enduring values represented by our national symbol.
Middle & Senior: Belgrano’s Many Facets and an Unforgettable Promise
At the Middle & Senior ceremony, we reflected on the true meaning of the word “transcend.” Students from Senior 6 Science presented Belgrano’s many roles throughout his life: lawyer, economist, educator, and military leader. They also highlighted the story of María Catalina Echevarría, reminding us that women also played a fundamental role in shaping our nation’s history.
The most moving moment of the morning came from Samuel Bosh, a Senior student. Because Samuel had been living abroad when he was in fourth grade, he had never had the opportunity to make the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. This year, just before graduating, he chose to make his pledge before his entire class, during an emotional reading led by the Head of Middle & Senior, Enzo Speranza.
