On August 29 and 30, the Belgrano Day School community enjoyed one of the most anticipated events of the year: the Primary Play, starring our P6 students, who this year are saying goodbye to Primary School. Under the general direction of Rosario Luder, the students brought to life a production that combined talent, creativity, and humor.
The production featured impressive sets and costumes, providing the perfect backdrop for a show that had the audience laughing and deeply moved thanks to the cast’s outstanding performances and the wit of the script, an adaptation of the beloved story of Shrek. In this version, the ogre who enjoys his peaceful life in the swamp is faced with an unexpected challenge: an invasion of fairy-tale creatures. To reclaim his home, he sets off on a mission with a talkative donkey to rescue Princess Fiona for the ambitious and power-hungry Lord Farquaad.
Every detail of the performance was captivating: the colorful costumes, the creative scenery, and the musical direction that brought the auditorium to life. The students performed and sang entirely in English, capturing the essence of the story and transporting the audience into the world of these unforgettable characters.
Reflecting on the message of the story, the director shared:
“This play teaches us that true beauty comes from within and that accepting ourselves as we are is the key to happiness. The story encourages us to let go of prejudice and appreciate our differences, showing that what makes us different is also what makes us unique. Through friendship and teamwork, Shrek and his companions discover that sharing life’s journey with others makes it richer and more meaningful. At its heart, Behind the Green Mask is an embrace for those who feel ‘different’—an invitation to love ourselves just as we are and to see others through eyes free of prejudice.”
The Play was also a testament to the collaborative spirit of the entire BDS community. The official poster was designed by the P6 students themselves during their IT classes within the Design Department. In addition, Middle & Senior students participated as the Backstage Crew, while several mothers collaborated in creating the spectacular scenery, continuing a cherished annual tradition.
